Just checking in, since I haven't done so in awhile. We had an extremely busy week this week--almost 650 students from DongSan Christian High School. The Christian religion is very widespread in South Korea; of a population of 50,000,000, 26% of the people claim allegiance to the religion of Jesus of Nazareth. That's almost 13,000,000 people. According to some schools of thought, that's not supposed to happen, but it is what it is. I'll have more to say on that in upcoming article.

Hopefully, the Republicans can stem some of this, or at least slow it down. Until I die.

Why do the Egyptians and Libyans want it? I think the saddest thing I'm seeing in South Korea is the impact of Western "political correctness"--global warming, feminism, "children's rights" (don't discipline them. Teachers are not even supposed to touch the children here at English Village, regardless of how bratty or disruptive they are being. All teachers can do is yell at them.); the "heroes" of the kids who come here are brainless pop culture stars. I've told some of the adult students I've had "please don't follow the West," but I'm afraid I'm spitting into a hurricane. The family is still strong in Korea and other Oriental countries. That's their only hope.

Incidentally, March is "Women's History Month." That's not sexist, of course. However, "Men's History Month" would be, just like "Black History Month" is not racist, but a "White History Month" would be. If we continue to patronize these "victim" groups, they will continue to demand more and more until they bankrupt the country, economically and morally.
Current Event Ramblings, February 13
Not a lot going on lately that I've felt worthy of my attention, but I thought I'd check in and let folks know I'm still here. I've got the week off--vacation time. I get two weeks a year, and I'll probably take another in April or May. I'm not going anywhere, but maybe I can get some writing done. That can be kind of tedious, too, so I may just sleep all week.

The only two things I've seen in the news this past week are Egypt and the House Republicans talking budget cuts. The "tea party" Republicans elected this past fall pledged $100 billion in cuts; the House Republican leadership is balking at that (no surprise). The Democrats, of course, are throwing a fit--can't buy votes by cutting the budget. They'll probably be some insignificant cuts, but nothing near $100 billion, which isn't much, but it would be a start. $3 trillion is closer to what they need to slice.

It's one of the three oldest civilizations in human history (anybody know the other two? They'll all go back to about the same time.) The length of Egypt's existence is one of the reasons why I don't get terribly disturbed or excited about what happens around the world. I'm not sure if this current coup is good for that country or not; at least Mubarak gave the country peace and stability. Everybody thought it was a wonderful thing when the Shah of Iran was overthrown in 1979, and they ended up with the Ayatollah Khomeini and everything they've had since. (That happens in the United States, too. An awful lot of people couldn't wait to see George Bush go, and look what the country is plagued with now.) We'll see what Egypt comes up with. Whatever it is, it will change again some time in the future. That is, if the Lord doesn't come back first and end it all.

The Conservative Political Action Committee has had a get-together lately and they held a straw poll for their choice for President. Ron Paul won with 30% of the vote; Mitt Romney received 23%. Nobody else, including Sarah Palin, got more than 6%. Paul is still my first choice, but he hasn't got a chance of being elected President. Donald Trump spoke to the gathering a few nights ago, and tossed out the possibility of a run for President next year. He was very well received, and probably would make a pretty good President. Unlike the current administration, he's had a lot of experience running things, and he's had no government experience (that I know of), and that speaks highly of him, too. Ideology cannot effectively direct a government (or anything else for that matter), and that's Obama's main problem. He came into power with nothing more than a far-left, quasi-socialist ideology. That's never worked anywhere, as the Soviet Union discovered and Europe is beginning to realize as well. Conservatism does work, because it's based on what has actually happened in history and proven to be successful. And part of that success is a respect and obedience to moral law, and THAT, dear reader, is what liberals truly cannot stand. As much as anything, that is the motivation behind much of modern liberalism--abortion, homosexuality, free sex, victimization--in other words, anything that Christianity opposes. "For everyone practicing evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed" (John 3:20). As true today as it was when Jesus spoke those words nearly 2,000 years ago. Do not underestimate the hatred the left has for God and Christianity and how much that influences their actions today. It is the main reason they oppose Sarah Palin so strongly. She's been an experienced state executive, far more qualified than Barack Obama, but, to the left, she isn't "qualified" for one reaon--what she believes. And they will continue to hammer her--into oblivion, if they can. Watch who the left attacks the most vociferously; that's who they fear the most. And as long as they continue to control CNN, CBS, NBC, and ABC, along with the Washington Post and New York Times, they have powerful voices to persuade the simple-minded.

Obamacare, Nullification, and Secession
Yesterday, a Florida judge declared several provisions of last year's health care bill unconstitutional. This is, for all intents and purposes, irrelevant. Other judges (Democratic appointees) have found the bill constitutional. The matter will almost surely land in the Supreme Court, where it has no business being.
The Florida judge is, of course, correct. There is absolutely nothing in the Constitution which gives the federal government the right to control or direct any of the nation's health care system. The attempt to find such authority in the "interstate commerce clause" is ludicrous. That phrase and the "general welfare" clause have been stretched to cover all possible contingencies, which means, in effect, there is nothing the federal government cannot do. This is obviously far, Far, FAR from what the Founding Fathers of this country had in mind when they wrote our Constitution.
What I wish is that some state would try what Thomas Jefferson and James Madison said should happen--nullification. This doctrine says that when the federal government goes beyond its Constitutional powers and inflicts upon the states some unauthorized legislation, the states--or any state for that matter--has the right to "nullify" that act, declare it unconstitutional, and not enforce it within its borders. South Carolina did this with the Tariff of 1832; Andrew Jackson threatened to send in federal troops and we almost had a war of federal aggression 30 years before it happened. A compromise was reached in 1833 and war was averted. But nullification was a debate in early American history, and no less personages than Jefferson and Madison endorsed it (Madison is known as the "Father of the Constitution." If anybody ought to know what it meant, it was him). One wonders what Obama would do if a state today nullified his health care act and refused to enforce it.
The ultimate response a state was to have to unconstitutional acts of the federal government was secession. This was the Damocles' sword the states held over the national government. This federal government was created by the states as a tool for certain universal matters, such as war, peace, foreign diplomacy, which could not be handled effectively at the state level; one does not want Maine declaring war on England and dragging the rest of the country into a conflict. So matters such as these were left in the national government's hands, and clearly stated in the Constitution. Indeed, every power given to the national government--and there are only about 17--was itemized in the Constitution, and, just in case the point was still unclear, it was manifestly stated in the 10th Amendment that all powers not directly delegated to the federal government by the states belong to the states or the people--not the national government. Secession was the last resort. If the federal government absolutely refused to back down from its unconstitutinal laws, a state--or a number of them--could withdraw from the Union and form their own. This, of course, would limit the authority and income of the national government and was wholly in line with the meaning and intent of the Founders; several of them said so, and even Abraham Lincoln acknowledged the right in 1848. But when the Southern states exercised that right, Lincoln killed or wounded approximately 1,000,000 Americans--3% of the population, or the equivalent of over 10,000,000 Americans today. The Europeans chided him for his undemocratic stance--"all the South wants to do is govern itself and you won't let it. How democratic is that?" Lincoln eventually used slavery as an excuse for the war, but that didn't wash with even a lot of abolitionists. Lysander Spooner, a rabid New England abolitionist, severely chastised Lincoln for the war--"you're going to enslave 9 million others in order to free 4 million." For indeed, if people do not have the right to choose their own government, they are not free. The South had a slavery problem, no doubt about it. They needed to be allowed to handle it peacefully, in their own time. Lincoln didn't permit that and race relations in the United States have suffered ever since. The North has demogogued the issue since the 1860s and very, very few Americans understand the issues involved in the War for Southern Independence. If they did, the federal government couldn't get away with 99% of what it does.
My point here is--nullification and secession. It's not going to happen, of course, too many Americans have succumbed to the false idea that the federal government is to have ultimate authority in all matters. But if South Carolina seceded again...what would Obama do? Kill a few millon Americans to force his health care law on us? I have a sneaking suspicion that if South Carolina, along with several other states seceded, an awful lot of Americans would say, "Let them go. It isn't worth another civil war." As for me, I wish the South would secede again. Let the heathen Yankees have their part of the country and let the Christian South have its. And then let's see which is the safest, freest, and best governed. That's a no-brainer.

Cowboys and Arabs
The best thing I've done in a long time is find a place online to publish my western stories. I mentioned in an earlier post that I have my blogs metered with a couple of "hit meter" sites, and that I've been getting "hits" on my cowboy stories from literally all over the world, as well as the United States. I also mentioned that the ultimate goal would be for some of those people to go to my Bible blogs, which are, far and away, the most important. Well, that has been happening. Some of my cowboy story readers have made their way to my Bible blog, including one of my readers from the United Arab Emirates. I do not know, and have know way of knowing, if that fellow is Arab or not. There's also somebody in India who's read some, maybe all, of my westerns, and he's been on my Bible blog, as well as a couple of people here in Korea, somebody in New Zealand...these are people who probably would never have found my Bible blogs if it hadn't been for my westerns. The Lord does move in mysterious ways. I also have no idea how much good is being done with these Bible blogs hits, but all I can do is publish the material and let come what may. We can only pray for God to be glorified. The Internet is certainly a wonderful thing and Jehovah can use all sorts of things to accomplish His will. I've often wondered, since I've been in Korea, why He sent me here. Well, maybe He did so I could publish my westerns. Who knows? I've got a pretty good following with these westerns, that is, several people have read most or all of them, and I get new readers all the time. So I reckon I best keep writing them, and publishing Bible material for them to read as well.
It's Time To Nuke Wal-Mart
They are at it again. Lowering prices and destroying people's lives. It's tme to nuke Wal-Mart.
New "research" shows that when a Wal-Mart Supercenter moves into an area, the people of that region start gaining weight, contributing, of course, to the American obesity problem. "Women, low-income families and people living in less densely populated areas" (the study tells us) are especially victims. And then we have this horrifying piece of news: "'It's not just about Wal-Mart underselling the competitor. It's about the competitors cutting their prices in response to competition from Wal-Mart,' University of North Carolina economist Charles Courtemanche, a co-author of the study [said]. "Someone might never step foot in a Wal-Mart, but they still might pay less for their food.'" (Wal-Mart also sells video games and this contributes to the problem, too, because people are playing those games and not getting any exercise.)
This is terrible. People are actually paying less for their food--everywhere--when a Wal-Mart moves in, and they are getting fat because of it. I'm especially concerned about those "low-income families." Poor people are buying too much food! Can't have that, can we.
But, wait a minute. What about all this hunger we hear about in America? Sounds to me like the best way to combat hunger would be to move a Wal-Mart Supercenter into town so people can afford to buy stuff. But that's not the way it's supposed to work, not in the liberal mindset.
The problem here, of course, is that capitalism is working (it always does), and that's the main reason these liberal eggheads hate Wal-Mart. If people shop at Wal-Mart, they save money. That means they have more money to spend on other things. That means they have more freedom, which is the one thing a liberal canNOT stand, because if people have freedom, then they don't need leftist elites to tell them how to live. It's all about power and control to liberals, folks. It's why the family and the church are their most two hated institutions--they can't control either one. And they can't control people shopping at Wal-Mart and saving money, either. Well, they are trying to, doing everything they can to find a dark lining around a wonderfully shining cloud--lower prices everywhere because of Wal-Mart. So, Wal-Mart moves in, people can buy more, they get fat, and the world is coming to an end. You almost have to laugh at the utter arrogance of the left. But always remember, reader, to a liberal, it's about control--they want to control your lives because they think you are too stupid to do it yourself. And they want the power, through government, to have that control. It's the most frightening thing on earth, the 20th century being solid, irrefutable testimony to that fact.
Of course, according to my dearly beloved and departed father, folks who shop at Wal-Mart are stupid anyway because the store rips everybody off. People haven't got sense enough to shop somewhere else and spend more money for the same things they can get at Wal-Mart. Morons...

The State of the Union According to the People
Gallup came out with a poll recently on how the American people viewed various aspects of life today comapred to 2008 when Obama beccame President. Here are some of the results:

The opportunity for a person to get ahead by working hard: down 13 since Obama was inaugurated;
Our system of government, how well it works: down 11;
The size and power of the federal government: down 10;

Of course, it's all George Bush's fault.

Current Event Ramblings, January 23
It's been a while since I've checked in, so I thought I'd say a few words. I've tried to do some writing the last week or so, but most of it has been on my Bible blogs, which, again, are far and away the most important. I have been working some on a 6th cowboy story; I think my readership is demanding such, especially some fellow in the United Arab Emirates who's been reading all of them. Not sure if we have any troops in that country or not; maybe it's just a cowboy Arab.

I do have some stuff on the drawing board for this blog, when I feel like writing it. I've got an idea that the United States needs to finally split (something that should have been allowed to happen in the 1860s); let the "progressives" have the North and the Christians have the South, and we'll see who has the better society. Plus, I have a post entitled "More Government is Progressive??" which I want to write, then an analysis of the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence--at least the first part of it--and I intend to pen an article or two on why I am a Christian, showing that the same historical principles that are used to establish other historical facts are the same principles used to establish the fact that Jesus rose from the dead and is thus the Son of God and Savior of the world. And I'll show why people don't believe that fact--and it has nothing to do with history. I find it extremely interesting how many believers in Christianity I have met in Korea, which according to some schools of thought, shouldn't be since this was/is largely a Buddhist country and people aren't supposed to be able to reject the religion they were raised with. But I make no bones about my religion and I'm frequently wished God's blessings--not Buddha's. Christianity has nothing to fear from history or any exposure of the truth; and again, that isn't why people reject it. More on that later.
I've also found some more really good quotes that I want to share with the readers, but I left them on one of the computers in a classrom in the Village, so I'll have to round them up and get them on here. One especially that I love, that I've been trying to teach for years, but that I can hardly get anyone to believe. I'll get it on here soon.
As far as Obama is concerned, one can't help but notice that his poll numbers have risen since he's started moving to the right. If he'll move far enough in that direction, close to Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck, and Sarah Palin, he's got a good chance of getting re-elected next year. If he starts listening again to the "progressives" in his party, he'll lose big, like he did in the recent election. His choice. If he loses, maybe he'll move back to Kenya which, in his own words (and his wife's), is his "home country." Let him do to them what he's been trying to do to the United States, though I shouldn't wish that on any nation.

Current Event Ramblings, January 13
It's a sizzling 1 degree Fahrenheit in Seoul at the moment (8:20 AM), and Paju is in the mountains north of Seoul, so it's probably below zero here. It's sunny, though, so it might get up to 15 today. I'm sure glad there's global warming or it would be minus 50. I'm sure the South and Northeast in the United States are offering up prayers of gratitude at the moment for global warming as well.

I posted an article on Isaiah 6 yesterday and I'm going to try to do more Bible writing in the near future. Working from 9-6, and then being tired and depressed much of the rest of the time has cut into my writing much more than I desire. But the Bible writing is, far and away, the most important and I must put that first. If that fruitcake who shot up Arizona the other day had been a New Testament Christian, it never would have happened. In fact, NO crimes would happen if everyone would faithfully follow the teachings of Jesus. I shake my head at liberals who think that more government is "progressive." More government is the very antithesis of "progress" because it means people aren't controlling themselves and need the heavy hand of law (government) to do it for them. True progress will come when people return to virtue, righteousness, and the eternal principles laid down by God in the Christian religion. It's the only way progress will take place, and I need to do more of my part in that by doing more Bible writing. Hence, that's my immediate plan which, Lord willing, I'll do the best I can to fulfill.

Incidentally, if "con" is the opposite of "pro," does that mean that "Congress" is the opposite of "progress"?

I'm also going to continue to write western novels. The reader might have noticed, under the "Links" in the right hand column, a reference and link to a website called "Free Online Books." The lady who runs that site linked my five stories and I've had quite of few people go and read them (I have my sites metered so I know where the "hits" are coming from). And it's extremely interesting to see who--where--the readers are from. While most of them are from the United States, I've had hits from India, Australia, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Canada, Nigeria, Tanzania, and a host of other places. I've had people spend up to 7 hours reading one of my stories. Frankly, that makes me feel good that folks find my stuff worthy of reading. I'm no Louis L'amour and I never will be; I don't have that kind of creative imagination or time to do proper research. But it's still nice to know that a number of people are enjoying what I'm writing. So I'm going to do that, too. Hopefully, some of those people will be directed to my Bible sites and I can aid in that way, too.

Current Events Ramblings, January 9
Not too much going on that I want to comment on, mainly because I haven't felt too well lately. I've been fighting a cold so that's sapped a lot of my strength. But it's not too bad. The weather here remains extremely cold, rarely getting above the freezing mark, even during the day. I love cold weather, but it's not easy getting up in the morning (it never is; my depression is always worse in the morning. The doctors said that was common.) Not much chance of a warm-up any time soon, at least according to the weather forecast. But then, given how miserable it was here last summer, that doesn't bother me too much.

We had some Japanese high school kids here Thursday and Friday, and I think that was the most delightful bunch of students I've taught since I've been here. They were just as sweet as they could be, which made me wonder how their grandfathers and great-grandfathers could have been guilty of Pearl Harbor. Different age, I suppose. Anyway, they were pretty typical Japanese, i.e., taking pictures of anything and everything. In case you are interested, it is virtually impossible to tell the Japanese from the Koreans; their features are exactly the same. We've got nothing but elementary school kids this week, so I'm hoping my cold will get worse, and I can take some sick leave...

I do have some political stuff I want to comment on soon, mainly the economy, which I think will get better this year since the Republicans have the House now and will be able to defeat any recession-prolonging legislation that Obama puts up. The psychology is important; as long as Obama and the Democrats were holding the total reins of power, businesses were, rightly, afraid to invest because of the possibility of new regulations and taxes slicing into investment funds. But with the Bush tax rates remaining, and no chance of cap-and-tax and other Democratic economic ignorance getting passed, there might be a little more optimism and willingness to invest. Let's hope so. Make no mistake about it. This is Obama's recession, indeed, it was mostly caused by the Democrats in the first place--Carter and Clinton's egalitarian housing and banking policies. The Democrats' claim that Bush's "regulations" were the cause of the recession is ludicrous; letting people keep and spend their own money is not recessionary. Forcing them to spend that money in ways they otherwise would not IS because economies cannot be planned and will always weaken when the attempt is made. European governments are now having to dip into private pension funds to prop up their socialistic, deficit-driven governments. It won't be long until that happens here, too. But maybe for a few years that can be staved off.
It's about time the Democrats realized that George Bush isn't President any more and quit blaming him for every problem in America, and especially the economic malaise which Barack Obama has done absolutely nothing but prolong because of his economic policies. Bush was far from the best President this country has ever had, but he is far superior to Obama, who hasn't a clue how to govern. Well, he never did. He is the most unqualified President the United States has ever had, and I, frankly, was highly offended that such an amateur even offered himself to the people as a choice for the most powerful political position in the world. His incompetence is plain to see for anyone who isn't ideologically--or CNN--driven. What America--and the world needs--is less government controlled economies and more free market policies. Let governments defend their borders and protect the property of their people. Much more beyond that and governments move into realms of which governments are inherently incapable of effective performance. That is a lesson of history that very few people have ever, ever learned. Our Founding Fathers knew it, but even they weren't able, ultimately, to control the selfish, power-hungry nature of an elite who thinks they know better how to run people's lives than the people themselves. And it's even worse when that elite has no conscience or religious restraints. Witness the barbaric, atheistic-driven 20th century. I doubt it will get any better any time soon.
